Late summer in Utah can offer a wide range of weather conditions. Typical weather for Panguitch in August is, mornings in the mid 50’s,
reaching the mid 80’s by the afternoon. This can also be thunderstorm season and afternoon showers are not unusual. You will be
traveling at elevations ranging from 5000 ft to 8500 ft, through the high desert and into dense forest.
Most people find that they can do well coming from sea level and riding at 5000 to 8000 ft. With higher elevations
however you have lower humidity which increases your need to hydrate properly. Make an extra effort to drink enough fluids. The sun at
this altitude is stronger also. You will sunburn much faster than you think. Please use plenty of sunscreen during the day.
These roads are lightly traveled rural roads used by local ranchers and tourists. Tourists often are looking at the scenery not the
road, and there are many foreign visitors to this area who may not be familiar with local traffic laws. Watch these vehicles for sudden
turns and also watch for oncoming traffic passing slower vehicles in your lane.
